Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has bailed out Gor Mahia, who were unable to travel to South Africa due to fincanial constraints.
Sonko has paid for the team’s air tickets to Pretoria, South Africa, where the team is set to play Supersport United in the return leg of the Caf- Confederation Cup.
According to the team Manager Ambrose Rachier, the process is almost complete, which will see them travel today in readiness for tomorrow’s match.
“It looks like the Governor Sonko has agreed to find for our air tickets and as we are speaking our representative are in his office waiting to complete the process.” he said as quoted by Citizen.
He added: “We needed the tickets for the traveling contingent of 18 players, five members of the technical bench, a federation representative and six team officials,”
Rachier had on Monday said they risked missing the match due to the financial hitches, as the government had not provided air tickets for the team, as it had earlier done in two continental fixtures.
Gor’s financial woes have dogged them ever since lead sponsors Sportpesa withdrew their sponsorship, undoing the great steps they had initially made.
However, the team will have to do without two of their strikers, after they were denied visas to travel to South Africa.
The two; Jacques Tuysinge and Ephraim Guikam were told to present a one-year working permit before they could be allowed to travel.
Gor have a 1-0 lead from the first leg that was played in Kenya almost a fortnight ago and will need any win or draw to qualify for the next round.
