The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) on Monday night announced October 17 as the date they have set for the repeat polls in line with the constitutional deadline of within 60 days after an election petition ruling.
However, NASA team led by their presidential candidate Raila Odinga have dismissed the date allocated by IEBC terming it as not an appropriate and because of the short time frame.
According to Odinga, the repeat polls is not a run-off but a fresh poll that needs enough time to prepare and that will involve the clean up of IEBC senior officers implicated in the electoral offenses.
"It is not the day but the preparation there must be proper cleanup and issues of vote transmission, form 34A, and Bs. The people who committed the crimes should not be allowed to oversee the polls," said Odinga.
His running mate Kalonzo Musyoka echoed the sentiments of Odinga saying IEBC should not set the date based on the 2013 presidential petition ruling."There is no relevance between 2013 and 2017. IEBC should have look at article 140, not 2013 judgment, this is again seen not as a runoff but fresh elections," said Kalonzo.
According to Moses Wetangula, the date is ill intended because it was announced after Education CS Fred Matiang'i recommendation.
Therefore, Odinga has recommended that the elections be slated for between October 24th or 31st.
