President Uhuru Kenyatta has cleared the air on his stand over the ongoing debate on constitution change.
Speaking on Friday at State House, Uhuru said there is no time for 'going round asking whether we want a new constitution'.
"We have a constitution that gave us the 47 counties. There is no intention here, we have no time here to run around the country asking whether you want another constitution or no constitution," Uhuru said.
Leaders allied to the Orange party led by opposition chief Raila Odinga had in the recent past said amending the Constitution was inevitable.
Deputy President William Ruto has been the most vocal in opposing a referendum to amend the constitution.
President Kenyatta's silence on the matter had sent jitters within the DP's political camp.
His Friday statement will make peace with Ruto's camp but it is likely to cause ripples within Raila's wing.
Kenyatta expressed his position during a follow-up meeting to last week’s 8th Presidential Round Table Forum that brought together stakeholders from government and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance.
