The University of Nairobi has been closed indefinitely.
The institution was closed on Tuesday morning by the senate Senate following student unrest over last week’s police assault which left 27 students with serious injuries.
“UON senate has today closed the University with immediate effect due to the deteriorating security situation. Students have been asked to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect but not later than 9.00am,” a tweet from the institution read.
The students on Monday night went on the rampage protesting the invasion and assault by police officers last week.
On Monday night, the students blocked sections of State House Road and Mamlaka Road before police dispersed them, firing gunshots into the air.
