The National Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has adopted a report that bars Kirinyaga County gubernatorial aspirant Ann Waiguru from holding public office.
PAC adopted the report on Tuesday following investigations into the infamous National Youth Service (NYS) scandal, in which at least Sh1.6 billion was lost.
Waiguru served as Devolution Cabinet Secretary during the period in which the monies were stolen.
The NYS is under the Devolution docket.
The PAC report has been forwarded to Speaker Justin Muturi for approval and tabling in the National Assembly for endorsement or disapproval.
If endorsed, the former CS will be forced to shelve her gubernatorial ambitions.PAC, headed by Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, recommended that Waiguru should be barred from holding office for “personally plotting and executing” the NYS scandal.
PAC also recommended that a fresh probe be conducted with the possible prosecution of Waiguru over her alleged role in the mega scandal.
Two MPs, Abdikadir Aden (Balambala) and Clement Wambugu (Mathioya), are said to have opposed the recommendations against Waiguru.
