Controversy is looming over the imminent appointment of Moi University Vice-Chancellor, after claims that some of the university's council members in the interview panel were bribed to influence marks awarded to candidates.
This is after a table of marks awarded by each of the panel members to candidates went viral on social media.
In the alleged document, whose authenticity is yet to be confirmed, three-panel members awarded high marks to Prof. Isaac Kosgei and lower marks to the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro.
Isabel Kogei awarded Prof. Ayiro 41 percent and Prof Kosgei 99 percent, David Rono awarded Prof. Ayiro 45 and Prof. Kosgei 92 percent while Hamisi Dena awarded Prof. Kosgei 90 and Prof Ayiro 51.
Overall, Prof. Kosgey who is the current deputy vice-chancellor, Administration, Finance and Development at Laikipia University topped the interviews with 76 percent while acting VC Laban Ayiro came second with 70 percent.
Prof. Anne Nangulu, the deputy chief executive officer at the Commission for University Education (CUE) emerged third, also with 70 percent.
Moi University Council chaired by Jeremiah Ntoloi Koshal has already forwarded the interview results to Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i who is required by law to appoint one of the three top candidates as the substantive vice-chancellor.
This is the second time Prof. Kosgey has topped the interviews for the Moi University VC post.Last year he was at the center of protests after local leaders in the North Rift demanded that he be appointed the vice-chancellor after he topped in the first interview.
