Kilifi County will next week start disbursing sh.350- million bursary to the bright and needy students in the area to pursue their education in secondary schools and colleges.
According to county sources, priority will be given to students who scored 350 marks and above from poor families.
Governor Amason Kingi said it is through education that development will be realised and mourned that most of the parents in the area could not afford fees.
He told 10 executive committee members sworn into office on Friday to shun corruption revealing that those implicated will be removed.
Kingi advised the 5 professional men and five women appointed to head the executive positions to discharge their duties diligently and without favor or bias to the 1.4- million residents of the county.
Only three committee members from the previous government were retained. Pwani University Lecturer Prof. Gabriel Katana took over the education and ICT docket while former Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa, Prof. Josphat Mwatelah will head Roads, Public works, and Transport.
Others are Samuel Kombe Nzai-Finance and Economic planning, Mwachitu Karisa Kiringi- Water, Environment, Natural resources and Forestry, Dr Anisa Ahmed Omar- Health Services and Charles Dadu Karisa- Lands, Energy and Housing.
Other executive committee members are Maureen Mnyazi Mwangovya-Gender, Social Services, Culture and sports, Nahida Mohamed Athman-Trade, Tourism and Cooperative development, Rachael Musyoki- Devolution and public service and Luciana Jumwa Sanzua- Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.
