A Fourteen-year-old girl from Nakuru County is appealing to well-wishers to help her raise her secondary school fee.
Diana Chebet, who scored 368 marks out of the possible 500 marks in the 2017 KCPE exam, has lost hope of joining Bahati Girls Secondary School in Nakuru County because of lack of fees.
The bright student is expected to report at the Catholic-sponsored school on Tuesday, January 9, 2017 with full payment of Sh25, 700 term one fees, which her mother has been unable to raise.
With less than a week before she reports to the school, Chebet has not purchased a single item needed at the institution.
Her mother, Gladys Kioko, said efforts to raise the money have proven futile because of the meager income she generates from her mitumba and hawking business.
The student is also expected to buy books and other items amounting to more than Sh10, 000.
The former Mirugi Primary School is worried that she may lose the chance to join the institution if well-wishers do not come to her rescue.
She said that her mother has tried to seek help from banks but nothing is forthcoming. She also applied for the Wings to fly scholarship but she was unsuccessful.
The student further said that she dreams of studying medicine if she manages to get sponsorship, adding that she is hoping someone will hear her plight.
"It is my prayer and hope that Kenyans of goodwill will hear my cries and God will bless them abundantly," said Chebet, as quoted by Daily Nation.
