Two pupils from Makueni County who sat for their KCPE last year and scored over 400 marks may not join form one due to lack of schools fees.

Obed Mutuku scored 416 marks out of a possible 500 and admitted to Machakos High School while Michael Nyamai who sat the class eight examinations at Shimo La Tewa Borstal Institution scored 406 marks.

The parents of the two boys, both single mothers cannot afford to take their sons to their schools of choice and are now appealing for help from well-wishers to raise the school fees.

‘‘My son is expected to join school tomorrow and I have no money,’ said Monica Mueni mother to Mutuku.

Mueni, a mother of nine, who ekes a living from menial jobs at Kanaani village in Kiboko said her efforts to get her son scholarships from different institutions has not borne any fruit.

‘‘I tried the County Government, KCB, and Equity bank scholarships but we were not successful, ’said the distraught mother.

Mutuku’s dream to become a surgeon hangs in the balance if his mother doesn’t raise the Sh 53,000 required for him to join form one at Machakos High school.

The 16 -year- old and the seventh born in the family sat for his primary examinations at Kiambani Primary School in Makindu and he is determined to pursue his secondary education to achieve his dreams.

‘‘I am worried because I am supposed to report to school tomorrow and my mother cannot afford the fees,” he said.

Although Nyamai had been committed to Shilo La Tewa Borstal institution for stealing, he managed to score 406 marks and has been admitted to Kenyatta High School Mwatate.

The first born in a family of three, the 17- year- old said he has reformed and wants to pursue secondary education.

His mother Rachael Matheka said she needs 53,554 for her son to join Form one.
