Religious leaders in Uasin Gishu County have hit out at the government for ignoring court orders to release self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna.
Led by the Uasin Gishu branch Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the leaders have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to reign in on government agencies and officers to respect the rule of law.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Bini further asked for the President to ensure Miguna Miguna is brought back in the country.
The controversial lawyer was on Wednesday night deported to Dubai after he was denied re-entry into the country from Canada where he had been deported earlier in February.
“It is so sad that government officials are ignoring clear court orders and this will most likely hurt our nation’s culture on the respect for the rule of law,” said Sheikh Bini.
“The president should step in and ensure Miguna Miguna is brought back and subjected to the due court process. As at now we cannot know who is speaking the truth between the government and Miguna Miguna over the nationality issue, this is something that the courts should be allowed to make a ruling on,” he added.
Despite the courts ruling that Miguna Miguna should be facilitated back in the country after his controversial deportation, the government declined to allow him back and later re-deported him.
