Boda boda and Taxis Association chairman Richard Mukhobero has faulted the move by the county government of Uasin Gishu to close parking areas along Uganda Road.
He says the move is unnecessary and ill-advised saying they should have been consulted. Speaking in Eldoret town on Sunday Mukhobero said the move by the county government has crippled their work since they don't have enough place to park their vehicles.
"The county government should be carrying out public participation before embarking on any project. On the closure of parking spaces we were not consulted so where are they expecting us to park our vehicles while waiting for our customers?" he said.
Mukhobero said the move amounted to mistreatment and discrimination of the operators saying they are losing clients since they have been forced to relocate.
"Are we not like other car owners and yet we usually pay the daily fee of Sh100? Whoever came up with this idea was ill-informed," he said.
He said that the county government would lose significant revenue due to the closure of the parking lots.
"We urge them to rethink the idea and bring back our parking lots," he added.
The county government recently closed the parking lots as a way of easing traffic congestion experienced along the road in Eldoret Town.
