The rivalry between Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Deputy President William Ruto has taken a new twist with the Governor now declaring his readiness to face the DP in a political battle.
The two had bitterly exchanged words at different church services in Bomet on Sunday with the governor accusing the DP of undermining him.
And on Tuesday during his ongoing tour in the troubled Sotik-Borabu border in Kineni, the outspoken Governor warned the DP against the continued ‘political insults’ against him.
“I am ready for a political duel with you because I am equally able to face you in politics. I am always careful with the way I carry out my politics but when it comes to lacking respect for other leaders, I will also respond where necessary,” he said when asked about his deteriorating relationship with DP.
“I have always respected him as the DP but he narrows himself down to county politics whenever he is around. That is unacceptable and I am now ready to challenge him if that is what he wants,” he said.
He accused the DP of fronting Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso to face him in the 2017 gubernatorial contest but insisted that he would easily beat his opponents.
“I think it’s honest to support her (Laboso) without dragging my name into it all the time. I am not afraid of anyone when it comes to elections,” he said.
