The British government will support business in Kisumu, British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey has said.

Mr Hailey said Britain will remain Kenya's top ally in East Africa adding that the  European nation will mobilize investors to inject money in businesses in the lakeside county.

He spoke in Kisumu when he visited Governor Jack Ranguma on Tuesday.

Britain, since the adoption of devolution has remained committed to boosting the business environment in Kisumu.

Ranguma on his welcomed foreign investors interested in injecting business capital in the lakeside town.

"I was honoured to host British High Commissioner to Kenya HE Nic Hailey," Ranguma said.

"We discussed investment opportunities in Kisumu County and potential areas of partnership ranging from environmental conservation, lake transport, tourism and border security. I thanked UK for supporting the ongoing mass voter registration exercise and peace initiatives in preparation for the 2017 General Election in Kenya."

The British government on Monday gave Kenya Sh1.5 billion to the IEBC in support of the August polls.

Former British High Commissioner to Kenya Christian Turner, in 2015, said massive investments by British investors will bring industries for job creation for the many unemployed youth in Kisumu.

“We will continue supporting community-based projects such as water projects, education improvement projects, youth empowerment, among other initiatives in Kenya,” he said then.
