Plans are underway for the British Government to establish a museum in Uasin Gishu County in honor of colonial period detainee Barsirian Arap Manyei.
According to Usain Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago, Arap Manyei was a Nandi Community hero, who hails from Uasin Gishu County.
"He is our Kalenjin hero and we will ensure that we partner with the British government to construct a museum in Eldoret where his remain will be stored, " said Mandago after hosting British High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey on Monday.
He added, " Arap Manyei was among the fighters who championed for Kenya's self-rule in the colonial period."
Mandago said they will trace his remains believed to be in Moiben constituency for them to be stored in the museum.
He reiterated that his administration is in dialogue with the British government to settle debts that arose from the atrocities caused by the colonial government.
"Some counties in the North Rift are in court to force the former colonial master to pay for the previous atrocities therefore we will work the British government to to ensure that the matter is settled once and for all, " noted Mandago.
He, however, urged Kenyans turn up in large numbers to register as voters.
"We are calling upon Kenyans to use the one month mass voter registration period to register as voters. This will make them eligible in the forthcoming election," added Mandago.
