Masaba North teachers have vowed to move to Teachers Service Commission (TSC) headquarters to push for payment of their September salaries that the government has held due to participation in the five week strike.

The teachers have not been paid despite a court ruling that directed them to halt their strike for 90 days, with the government ordered to pay them September salaries unconditionally.

Speaking at Nyakongo Primary School on Monday during a thanks giving ceremony for class eight candidates, Masaba North Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) branch Deputy Secretary General James Oteki said teachers from the region had become impatient hence plans to move to Nairobi by the end of the week.

“We are really disappointed that this government has totally disregarded the rule of law. We have respected the court ruling twice and they have violated it twice. This country is becoming a state of anarchy and in quick response to defiance by TSC, we are moving to their headquarters by the end of the week to protest the delayed payments,” he said.

Mr Oteki said majority of teachers were in a deep financial crisis that has paralysed many of their daily operations with some facing difficulties in repaying their bank loans.

“Life is becoming too difficult simply because we asked what is rightfully ours. Paying off debts is a major concern. Most of us are in deep financial crisis and TSC has to heed to our calls. The court ruled so and the law ought to be respected,” he added.

He said the branch was willing to give free transportation to willing teachers and urged those ready to register at the headquarters in Keroka.
