Dairy farmers will receive Sh3 more for each kilo of milk delivered to Brookside Company. This follows an announcement made by the milk processor.
The increase which is to be effected this week is expected to apply to all the raw-milk suppliers contracted to the plant.
Brookside Milk Procurement and Extension Services general manager John Gethi said the move was an incentive to cushion farmers from the effects of unfavorable weather, experienced in the Country over the past two months.
"This will help farmers to recover their milk production costs, and enable them to prepare adequately to cultivate and preserve feeds as we approach the long rains,'' he said.
Gethi further stated that the price increase demonstrate the firm's commitment to its farmers, to retain the existing farmers and attract new suppliers
Brookside which commands 45 per cent of the national raw-milk market paid Sh10 billion to nearly 160,000 suppliers from milk delivered in 2016.
