A Nakuru Law Court on Monday charged two middle aged brothers with an attempt to steal four donkeys and for illegally being in possession of donkey meat.
The Court’s prosecution desk told Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo that the two accused (Benard Karanja 33, and Joseph Karanja 27) were arrested by police officers from Bahati police Station who were on patrol on March 13 this year at Kabatini Trading Centre in Bahati within Nakuru County at around 1am while in possession of two donkeys, a suspected donkey meat wrapped in a sack and several crude weapons.
The prosecution desk said that the accused who were in company of others who were not before the court were intending to slaughter the donkeys and distribute the meat to unsuspecting members of the public.
The accused however denied the charges and were remanded until the hearing of the case on April 9 this year after failing to raise a cash bond of Sh60,000 each.
Meanwhile the same court jailed a 35 year old man for six months after it found him guilty of stealing water from a school water reservoir in Njoro sub county on March 14 this year at around 6pm.
The prosecution desk had told the Magistrate that the accused person Dennis Wanjohi, 30 who pleaded guilty to the offence had illegally accessed the compound of Ndarugu Primary School on a weekend while playing a ‘cat and mouse game’ with security guards and harvested 20 litres of water from a reservoir before one of the school’s security guard caught him while fetching the school water.
He had been detained at the school’s security room before police officers from Njoro Police Station came to arrest him two hours later after being alerted.
