Elders from Abasinyama clan who live in Budalangi, Busia county, have revealed why the Sigiri Bridge, a Jubilee flagship project, collapsed.
The Sh1.2 billion bridge collapsed Monday June 26, 2017, few days after president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto visited the region to inspect the construction of the project.
27 people were injured during the incident.
According to the elders, the bridge collapsed because they were not consulted.
They are now calling on Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba to visit their leader, Retired Brigadier Maloba, for blessings, in order to make the second bridge a success.
“I know my uncles well, without their blessings, it will be hard to complete whatever you are constructing. So, I’m giving them a simple advice,” said 85-year old John Okulohoma.
The leaders have cautioned that if the engineers begin erecting the Sigiri Bridge without getting their blessings, it will collapse again.
