Political analyst Prof Kisiang’ani has said that the current budget is a vote-hunting bait by Jubilee.
Kisiang’ani pointed out the numerous scandals where victims walk free after misappropriating public funds.
According to the analyst, Jubilee has misused public money. “Considering the hardship and suffering associated with the recently declared national disaster as a result of the widespread drought in the country, white maize will be imported on a tax-free basis for a period of four moths,” said the Finance CS.
The above declaration has been seen as a move to protect the poor from the prevailing economic hardships but opposition supporters are terming it a timely move to get some votes.
Deputy minority leader in parliament Jakoyo Midiwo also complained about lack of gambling regulation and concentrating on taxation.
“There is nothing to celebrate here. A good government cannot be in the business of driving other businesses out of business. The government should do more to regulate the business environment so those Chinese machines doing backstreet gambling should also be controlled.
Jubilee has never prepared a budget that revives the livelihoods of poor Kenyans,” Midiwo said.
