Business Community Members in Kisii town on Thursday urged Kisii County Government to construct a bypass to curb traffic that has literally paralysed business in the South- Nyanzan town.

Ephantus Maina a businessman at Marsh Park hotel urged the county to intervene by constructing a modern bypass that would be used by vehicles that do not need to pass through the Central Business District.

Maina said that some heavy commercial vehicles transporting good to Tanzania has been being parked on the sides of some roads in the town hence causing traffic.

“Traffic jam is the main impediment to economic development of the town. We have seen transit vehicles being parked carelessly even at fuelling stations. This has made it impossible for small vehicles and human beings to move within the town,” notes Maina.

Main complained that it is taking them several hours to transport goods inside and outside due to the heavy traffic.

Erick Momanyi a resident hailed the county government for ongoing construction of linking roads within the town but urged the government to consider constructing a by pass.

“We are not opposed to tremendous job of expanding CBD by renovating forgotten streets and bus stages. We are only asking them to consider constructing a highway that will be used by vehicles which do not necessarily have to pass through the CBD,” said Momanyi.

Momanyi noted that although the county government has done a lot to combat traffic jam by even re-routing Boda boda operators there still is a lot to be done to curb traffic in town.
