The county government of Kisii has been challenged to build better homes at the slums.
The residents of Nubia famously known as Bonubi slum decry the poor state of houses in the area saying the county government should build them better structures.
They want the county government to build up structures in the slums where the locals can pay a subsidised rent.
They said it is another way the government would be investing at the same time helping its own people.
“We would wish the county government hears our plea for some of us live in very pathetic buildings since we have no otherwise as we can’t afford to live in expensive better houses," said Fredrick Mogire.
They said they have had to suffer a number of years in their homes saying they are a threat to their health yet they have no alternative due to poverty.
“These slums are a threat to our own health and we would like the county government to assist us by building better homes,” said Zephaniah Oyugi.
They now want the county government to look into the matter.
