Tala road construction workers on Sunday lauded the County government of Machakos for providing job opportunities to a great number of residents who had been jobless for a very long time.
The workers who are currently working on the transportation projects that were launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the last three months said that the projects have various impacts on Tala town’s economic development objectives, such as productivity, employment, business activity, property values, and investment and tax revenues.
‘’A new highway or public transport service increases a community's access to other areas. This increases businesses' labor pool, reduces their costs to obtain input materials and services, and expands their potential market. This may increase economies of scale in production processes, which means higher productivity through lower costs per unit of output,’’ said one of the constructors who asked for anonymity.
The project which was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta was aimed at increasing workers' ability to access education and employment opportunities in order to increase their productivity and incomes and increase residents' access to more shopping opportunities.
