A week after Kamenu Ward MCA Elizabeth Muthoni warned private developers against encroaching on feeder roads' reserves in the ward, a building in Kiganjo shopping centre said to be on a road reserve was on Monday brought down by the county government.
Muthoni had given the warning on Tuesday last week saying that some developers in Makongeni and Kiganjo were encroaching on feeder roads.
According to Thika administrator Rose Muthoni who was present, the construction had not even been approved by the county government.
"We do not approve constructions before we know where they are. During the approval process the owner could have been told that the intended construction site was a road reserve," said Muthoni.
Muthoni further stated that the owner had been warned three times against continuing with the construction.
"He was warned from the onset that the building was on a road reserve but he chose to ignore the warnings and that is why we had to do the necessary and that is to bring the building down," said Muthoni.
However, the owner Joshua Kamau, who spoke on phone said that he had bought the plot seven years ago and had a title deed to prove ownership.
"I am not a mad man to build a house on a road reserve. I legally bought that piece and I had conducted several searches at the Land's Ministry before I bought it. Nowhere it was indicated that it was on a road reserve. I will be going to the court to seek compensation," he said.
