A man was on Sunday night killed when a five-storey building, which was still under construction collapsed at Gacharage in Kiambu County due to what the engineers termed as heavy down pour.

The deceased, an employee at the building site was killed during the 9pm incident, after he was trapped under the rubbles.

According to Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ngetich, more than 50 people were working at the building when it collapsed following the heavy down pour.

"Immediately after the incident, the owner of the building went missing and he had switched off his phone. We are now looking for him so that he can record a statement with us. I urge the public to volunteer any kind of information on his whereabouts to the police," said Ngetich.

Ngetich further said that the heavy rains started at around 8pm and an hour later, the building caved in, trapping the deceased who was among the workers in the 5th floor of the building.

According to Julius Mwangi, who was in the area during the collapse, the construction works have been going on during the day and night.

The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for postmortem
