Four buildings built on road reserve have been pulled down in Juja’s Murera area to pave way for road construction on Wednesday.

Business owners were shocked to find their business premises demolished and salvaged what they could from the garbage.

Murera MCA George Kioi told the owners that the buildings had been pulled down on short notice as the construction of the road is supposed to commence immediately according to the contract under Kenya Rural Roads.

He said other buildings on the road reserves will be pulled down since the road will be constructed to accommodate flower beds, pedestrian walks and a road leading to Juja shopping centre estate.

“It is not my fault or my ruling but the contractor was given a short notice to ensure the residents remove their belongings from the buildings. The buildings had to be pulled down since time was not on our side,” he said.

He added that no one should complain because the owners of the buildings made a mistake by erecting their buildings on the road reserves.

Kioi said that those who feel aggrieved by the demolitions should go to court and not to his office as some have threatened him after the early morning incident.
