Governor Ken Lusaka on Sunday presided over a fundraiser for a water project in Nalondo that is expected to benefit more than 30,000 people.
The Muyai Water Project, operated by a self-help group of vulnerable people, was started in 2014 under the guidance of the KRA Director Evans Kakai.
According to the water project's Chairman Kevin Masinde, the fundraising seeks to raise Sh5 million 'to complete phase one of the project'.
"This includes the purchase of an overhead water tank at Nalondo, construction of a pump house, a generator house and the buying of a water pump and pipes," said Masinde.
The second phase of one of Bungoma County's most ambitious water project includes the bottling of the water, and selling them at fair market price.
Governor Lusaka lauded the effects of the self-help group, made up of mostly widows, orphans and the disabled for the grand project, saying the water project shields Nalondo, Chebukwa, Sikata, Lhalaba, Sirare and Mabanga residents from water shortage problem, particularly during dry seasons.
