Hundreds are likely to benefit directly from a chicken slaughterhouse that has been built in Chwele, Bungoma county.
While inspecting the facility on Wednesday, Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka said that the facility is already up and running citing that it will process chicken for local and foreign consumption.
“This will help in alleviation of poverty in Bungoma and other neighboring counties. It is a project of its own kind in Kenya,” he said.
The governor challenged Bungoma residents to venture into poultry farming as means of livelihood, adding that the slaughterhouse might need about 3,000 birds in a day for processing.
Laurian Kolikho, Bungoma County's Executive member for Agriculture observed that the facility is one of the most important developments in Bungoma and it's neighbours.
“Though this project has taken a long time to start, it will soon be complete and provide ready market for our chicken,” said Kolikho.
