Bura MP Ali Wario has faulted the manner in which Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has been handling the disputed border between Tana River and Kitui Counties.

Speaking at Bisan Hargeisa in his constituency on Sunday, he said Nkaissery has been issuing biased orders and openly favouring one community.

Nkaissery ordered early 2017 all herders who had crossed over from Tana River and Garissa Counties go back to their respective counties.

“Nkaissery disarmed police reservists from my people and went ahead to recruit and train 800 reservists from Kitui. We want to know whether the minister is for one tribe or Kenya as a whole,” Wario said as reported by KNA.

“I have a problem with Nkaissery. The constitution clearly indicates that no Kenyan should be discriminated because of race, religion, tribe, or status,” he added.

Wario said there are over 6,000 Kamba people living and working in various centres in his constituency and they have never had any problem with them.

“We are ready to talk but we shall not allow the minister to fuel the conflict,” he said. The legislator claimed that residents of Tana River have been beaten, maimed and their animals rounded up by security personnel carrying out operations in the area.

He requested the joint parliamentary committee to ‘take action’ against the Interior CS saying that as leaders from the area, they could no longer sit and watch as their people were being harassed by the security personnel.

He said he will defend his seat on a Jubilee ticket.
