Residents of Kebirigo's Mobamba village were stunned this morning after thieves allegedly pulled down a solar lamp mast and left with its batteries and lamp.
The solar lamp had been installed by the county government of Nyamira to light the busy junction that links the main road and Kebirigo tea factory.
Enraged residents now want the area nyumba kumi to launch a probe on the culprits, who they suspect to come from around, and forward them to the authorities.
Eric Omache a boda boda rider, termed the incident 'unfortunate' and 'offensive' and urged residents to uphold things that are of common use.
"This is so unfortunate to steal things meant for the public good use.Its an offense and the culprits need to be arrested and heavily fined.Public things should be taken care of and respected," he said.
"I think whoever did this has no good motive to the residents. They should be arrested and punished. The lights were a source of security in this place especially for us traders," added Eunice Kwamboka,a tomato seller in Kebirigo market.
George Mosoti,a worker in the factory said the streetlights were a blessing and had lessened crimes and accidents on the road junction.
"The lights had changed our lives and its long since we heard of a crime or accident this side. They have returned us back to the dark again, "said Mosoti.
No authority could be reached to condemn or comment on the offense.
