Six passengers and the bus conductor suffered steam burns from the radiator, and also minor cuts as passengers jumped through the windows to escape from inside the bus.

The bus, Daima Connection bus was carrying passengers from Nairobi to Kisii.

Passengers said the conductor suffered scalds as he was the one who went to open the radiator when the vehicle overheated.

Passers-by were shocked by the steam generated by the overheated component.

“When the radiator burst, the conductor was a few inches from it and he was burnt by the hot air and steam,” said Paul Mburu, an eyewitness.

The conductor was rushed to Kenyatta Natioanl Hospital for treatment while the other passengers received first aid at the scene since they suffered minor cuts on their bodies.

Some passengers alleged that the vehicle had a problem from the onset, and even the first driver whom they were supposed to travel with from Nairobi was changed after he complained the vehicle had a problem.

A mechanic was, however, called and checked the vehicle and the journey began only for the overheating to happen in Kabete area.
