On Friday, The National Transport and Safety Authority arrested a driver of a Mombasa bound Tahmeed Bus on Voi over a public outcry of rogue driving.A video filmed by a motorist showing the driver overtaking a fuel tanker at a speed of 120 km/h along the Mombasa - Nairobi highway and almost colliding with a trailer had gone viral on social media prompting the safety Authority to act.Answar Mabruki Faraj, the driver of the bus, KCN 976R forced the drivers of the two trucks to veer off the road to avoid a collision.Lazarus Monye, NTSA Coast region official confirmed the arrest and said the driver was charged at the Voi law courts and later released on a sh10,000 shilling cash bail.We have taken his driving license and released him on cash bail. We shall prosecute him in court at a later date," Mr. Monye said.
The bus was later allowed to proceed with the journey after it was found to be compliant with traffic rules.This comes after nearly 300 people lost their lives in December alone.
