Police in Naivasha are holding a driver and his conductor from a leading bus company after they were nabbed ferrying bhang.
The two were arrested along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Tuesday while transporting a bag full of the drug from Western Kenya to the capital city.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the flying squad unit stopped the bus near Mithuri estate where the haul was found stashed under other luggage.
Passengers in the ill-fated bus were shocked as they had to seek alternative means of travel to their destination as the bus was driven to Naivasha police station.
A passenger in the bus, Isaac Ouma, said that they were shocked when the bus was flagged down by police and the bag of bhang retrieved.
“The officers knew what they were looking for as they went straight to the cargo section where the sack was neatly packed,” he said.
A police source said that they were tipped-off about the luggage which was loaded from Busia town and destined for Nairobi.
“Our officers missed out on the bus on various occasions as driver used a different route but we managed to arrest him and the conductor and they will be arraigned in court,” said the officer.
