Police officers in Voi are reported to have detained three buses that were believed to be ferrying supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) from the coast region to Nairobi to attend the controversial swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

A road block erected by the traffic officers saw the buses detained over reports that some passengers lacked identification documents.

The incident came few hours after photos and videos on social media showed some Mombasa county leaders flagging of over 50 buses full of NASA supporters on Monday, to head to Nairobi for the inauguration.

The buses had been hired by leaders coast region leaders, and the flagging off was led by Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Ahrub Khatri at the Treasury Grounds in Old Town.
