A Busia blogger was arrested, Tuesday, by police for publishing messages alleged to be offensive on his Facebook page.
Paul Odhiambo, aka Amemba, was detained at the Busia Police Station for questioning.
Odhiambo is said to be often posting comments on local politics.
Confirming the incident, Busia OCPD Masai Makau said Odhiambo’s arrest follows protests from members of the public who alleged he was propagating hatred through the posts.
“We have him in custody and our detectives are in possession of his phones to help us with investigations over some posts aimed at propagating animosity between some communities in Buisa,” Makau said.
The police boss cautioned other social media users spreading hatred to watch out since his team and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is monitoring the social media sites.
“Let this group of people be warned that we are monitoring social media. We are following up on two individuals who we have been informed they are spearheading hatred,” said the OCPD.
“Let it be known that NCIC has gone a step ahead and given us recording devices to help us in monitoring,” he added.
Makau further asked the youths not to accept to be used by politicians during this period of campaigns.
