Busia County Assembly MCAs share a light moment after the motion on Wednesday. [Busia County Government]Busia County Assembly on Wednesday approved names of two nominees picked from the public as members of the County Assembly Service Board.Miriam Wakaya Obura was re-appointed to serve for another five-year term while Boniface Ekada Mamai joined the Board for the first time following the amendment of section 12(d) of the County Government Act 2012 by introducing a second member of the CASB.The two will constitute a five-member team of the Service Board that is led by the Speaker Bernard Wamalwa as the Chairman. Amukura West MCA Abiud Ochilang'ole of Orange Democratic Movement is the Board Vice Chairman.Bwiri Ward MCA Beatrice Kanoti of Ford Kenya is a member which has also the Clerk to the Assembly Allan Mabuka but who is an ex-officio.The approval of Obura and Mamai was hotly contested by 45 members out of 53 who were present with majority citing lack of regional balance.Gardy Jakaa who led those opposing the motion said Samia had three members including the Speaker, Bwiri Ward MCA and Obura which is unfair, thus the need to replace her.After heated debates the Speaker put the motion to vote where 33 members voted in favour of the motion and 12 against.Wamalwa said the Board will serve every member without discrimination despite their stand during voting.
