[Photo/Busia County Government]The County government of Busia has received two exhausters worth Sh23 million to support sanitation challenges.They are to help where sewer network does not exist and to prevent point and nonpoint pollution and improve sanitation along Lake Victoria Basin.During the flag off ceremony in Kisumu, Environment Principal Secretary Charles Sunkuli said the exhauster facilities are part of the national government's efforts to address development gaps within the Lake Victoria Basin.Other counties which received the equipment to support sanitation include Siaya, Kericho and Nandi (one each). Sunkuli said the seven exhausters were purchased in the first phase of the Lake Victoria, Environment Management Project.He said the exhausters were courtesy of the credit facility the Government of Kenya received from the World Bank- International Development Assistance (IDA)."The exhausters will provide onsite sanitation services and contribute immensely to pollution load getting onto Lake Victoria," he said.Water and Sanitation CeC Bernard Yaite said the exhausters would support sanitation initiatives in Busia County."One exhauster will be stationed in Malaba where there are no sewer facilities. This will be on a short-term basis as the County Government addresses the sewerage challenges in Malaba and other urban centers across the County through a partnership with African Development Bank or LVEMP III.," he said.Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong will flag off the exhausters on Friday.
