Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba is a man in a fix.
Days after he relaunched the Labour Party of Kenya, a party he expects to use for defending his parliamentary seat in 2017, competition against his leadership seem to be heightening by the day.
On Wednesday, the ODM party that sponsored him to Parliament in 2013 unveiled a candidate interested in unseating the two-time lawmaker.
The candidate is among aspirants who will battle it out during party primaries before flying the ODM ticket during the polls.
"I am today announcing my intention to go for the Budalang'i Parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket," Leonard Obimbira, Busia County's Finance CeC told the press at Bukoma beach in Budalang'i.
"I want the constituents to get the message loud and clear."
He said he entered the race to improve socio-economic development which he said has registered a negative turn in Bunyala sub-county.
"The MP has also 'deserted' the people of Budalangi by crossing ship to the Labour Party of Kenya, thus living a gap in the most popular ODM party."
"As a big party in the county, ODM must have a candidate. There is no secret in me going for the seat on an ODM ticket after the party primaries."
Ababu, three months ago, ditched ODM citing frustration. He claimed some senior party members were not happy seeing him dispense his duties as ODM SG independently.
He quit together with Funyula's Paul Otuoma who has since returned to ODM and expects to vie for Busia governor seat.
