A total of 27 meat inspectors from Busia county received equipment in a move to improve meat hygiene in the county.
The inspectors who had earlier been given motorbikes and laptops to aid in service delivery, received gumboots, aprons, hats and microscopes
While delivering the meat hygiene equipment, Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Alan Ogondo said meat inspection was a devolved function, adding that all meat sold across the County should be obtained from slaughter houses under inspection while those slaughtered in homes should be discouraged
Area Agriculture and Animal Resources CeC Dr Moses Osia said meat hygiene officers would assist farmers improve on meat hygiene.
He urged the farmers to venture into livestock farming in order to reduce cases of importing livestock from neighboring counties.
