The national government has released Sh46 million shillings meant to upgrade two fish landing beaches in Lake Victoria.
According to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, Sh25million will be used at Sori beach in Migori county while the balance will be disbursed to Busia county to boost the current 1,600 fish cages.
He pointed out the number of fish stocks in Lake Victoria has reduced over the years, hence the need to encourage cage fish farming in beaches to help in restocking the lake.
The government will also add three patrol boats in Lake Victoria and two in Lake Turkana to guard cages against illegal fishing.
