The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) are set to elect Majority and Minority Leaders respectively, Busia County Assembly Clerk Allan Mabuka has said.
ODM, a NASA affiliate party has 17 MCAs-elect. Ford Kenya has four members while Wiper and Amani National Congress have three each.
“NASA MCAs can come together and name a Majority Leader as a combined force or ODM with majority members can name Majority Leader among the 17 elected members,” said Mabuka.
“LPK with three members and Jubilee with one are a minority in the Assembly. Since LPK have more members they will pick Minority Leader.”
In NASA, Nangina Ward MCA John Obwogo of ODM is favourite and is projected to take the Majority Leader slot that was held by outgoing Elugulu MCA Josephat Wandera.
LPK members include Felix Omanyi from Bunyala Central, Bartholomew Were (Bunyala West) and Evans Barasa (Agenga Nanguba).
Obwogo was among seven MCAs who survived voters' wrath that saw 28 MCAs shown the door in the August 8 general election in Busia County.
Busia County Assembly is also set to elect a new Chief Whip after the holder of the post in the first Assembly, Tony Onyango lost in the elections to Ford-Kenya's Moses Ochieng’.
