Busia County staff dancers on Friday received top accolades after emerging winners in the borrowed category in the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association games in Thika, Kiambu County.
Busia team leader by Jacinta Mwandala took to the podium to receive the trophy from Nairobi County Assembly minority leader Guyo Hassan Ibrahim.
Kilifi received the runners up trophy with Nairobi bagging the second runners up prize.
It was ululation for Team Busia when Mwandala received the trophy.
She was joined in celebration by Culture and Sports Chief Officer Gilbert Oduory, Director Culture, Stephen Makhanu, Director Alcoholic Drinks and Drug Abuse Control Patrice Lumumba and Transport Chief Officer Abraham Emuria.
Mr Makhanu said it was a historic day for the team to inscribe its name in the list of winners.
"We came as underdogs but Team Busia upset the form book to carry the day. We thank Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for his support and motivation to the team which led to our success at the fourth edition of the games," he said.
When he flagged off the team for the games last Sunday Mr Ojaamong promised to fete them when they return with trophies.
"This has come to pass and we look forward to that happy moment with our governor," Makhanu said.
Following the exemplary performance, Busia dancers will represent Kenya in the East African Local authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) games to be hosted by Kenya in either Nairobi or Mombasa in December.
In giving Team Busia first position, the adjudicators lauded the choice of soloist Pricilla Aoko, good introduction, authentic costumation, stage presence and balance, execution of mood, and ownership of the performance.
