Busia County Women Representative Florence Mutua is the latest MP from the former Western Province to come to the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga in his bid to vie for the presidency on the coalition’s ticket in 2017 amid jitters from within the coalition.
Mutua who is Raila’s staunch supporter in the region which is slowly moving away from the ODM party says the former Prime Minister deserves another stab at the presidency before he can endorse any other person from the region for the top seat.
“My question is, why can’t all these presidential aspirants not endorse Raila and fully support him from their perceived bases?” Mutua was quoted by the Star as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
“Raila will then endorse them in 2022 and bless them with his voters,” she added.
The legislator claimed that only ODM is working hard whereas leaders from other parties remain as spectators.
“How do we know that they will not backtrack and support Jubilee shouldn't Raila endorse them?" the vocal MP asked.
She said Raila’s candidacy is not questionable and that the narrative that Raila has lost in three elections hence stands no chance to win in the next poll is used by Jubilee to make voters lose hope.
