Traders operating in Naivasha town are counting profits after the town attracted tens of visitors from various parts of the country.
Despite the deteriorated economic times, hotels and recreational facilities received an impressive turnout as several families jammed the town for the December festivities.
However, the traders blamed divisive politics to a drop of international visitors around the lakeside town.
“We have made profits following the increased number of visitors that toured the region. We hope January 1, 2018 will be the same,” said John Mburu, a trader.
He said despite the challenges, they hope next year will be better as there would be minimal politicking during the year.
Naivasha deputy commissioner Isaac Masinde said the region experienced more visitors than expected because most of the hotel rooms were fully booked by people from outside.
“Several people visited Lake Naivasha and other areas to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones. Police were on high alert to respond to any crime. QSecurity for all visitors within the town is guaranteed,” he added.
