Hotels are making a kill ahead of the Madaraka day celebrations that kick off in Nakuru Afraha stadium on Wednesday. A spot check revealed that all hotels offering accommodation facilities within Nakuru Town were booked by Monday morning.
Most of the hotels have raised their charges and charging double the usual accommodation fee . For instance a lodge near Afraha stadium that normally charges Shs. 1500 per room is now going at Shs. 3500 for the same services.
“The charges are bound to shoot further depending on demand that is likely to go up by the end of business today,” said a proprietor of the lodge who declined to be named.
Hoteliers are expecting to make a booming business as the county expect to have over half a million visitors according to an invitation sent to each county.
Nakuru residents are proud of hosting the conference saying it has boosted their business earnings and also led to the beautification of Nakuru Town.
The town has also been decorated with billboards bearing the pictures of the 47 governors.
“We are lucky since it is barely a few weeks after hosting prayers day and the business activities were handsome”, said a resident.
