Business family in Nakuru town have raised concern over the persisted presence of street children in town.
Speaking on Monday in Nakuru, they said that the children are often roundup and repatriated to their homes, but within a short time, more come in large numbers.
Karanja Njuguna, a businessman in town, said most of the children come from informal settlement of Bondeni Ronda and Ponda Mali in the outskirt of Nakuru town.
“Most of these children who flock around the streets in the evening are from Bondeni and other informal settlement around the town’” he said.
He called for an investigation into the cause of the street children, and quick solution so that it does not get out of hand.
He added that street children should be rounded up, thoroughly investigated, and those with parents taken back home while orphans be taken to children homes.
George Kamau, also a businessman said street children is a problem which need should be solved immediately, adding that if the increasing number will not be solved, then the state of insecurity will also increase by a larger margin.
He added that the county government should take the issue seriously, noting that the children are still a burden to the government.
“If insecurity cases go up because of these children, we will blame the government, it should take responsibility of returning the children to their homes or take them to children home," he added.
