The traders are protesting high levies by Kiambu County Government which they say are way beyond their affordability.

Though the demo is licensed by the Police and there is a heavy police presence in the town, many businesses owners say they could still not take the risk.

"Looters are looters with or without the Police around. We cannot afford to lose so much because of only one day,” said Paul Mbugua, a supervisor at Kassmat Supermarket.

Many supervisors and managers of hotels, supermarkets, shops and hardware stores said that they will resume business on Thursday or in the evening after the demo.

However, Dominic Gicheru who is the Kiambu County Chief Officer of Public Service and Administration has allayed fears that there will be chaos.

"Security is tight and people should go on with their normal activities,” he said.

Gicheru has also asked traders to come to the table and reach an agreement with the county government.
