Mawanga and Teachers estates’ business owners and residents are happy with a street lighting project by the County Government of Nakuru.
The residents say that this will help curb crime in the area during the night.
Mawanga Teachers Business Owners Association (MATEBOA) chairman James Maina says that the project was long overdue but commended the county government for the initiative that will cover all major business centres and residential quarters’ streets in the area.
Maina said the business community as well as individual residents has been vastly affected by criminal gangs activities all year’s round who partly take advantage of lack of street lights to perpetrate crime.
“We commend the government for this project. It is a step forward towards the fight against crime in this area apart from the general developments. We hope criminal activities that mostly affect business people here will be minimized,” he said.
Residents who talked to this writer likewise commended the county government for the street lighting project urging that criminals who target residential houses and those who perpetrate mugging and armed robberies will have to think twice.
“This project will make us freely walk at night and will also prevent thieves who break into houses and business premises. The government should expand it to all parts of the area,” said Alex Kimani, a resident.
The project that begun early this year has seen state of the art street lights installed on major streets and strategic residential areas by engineers from the ministry of Lands, Physical Planning and Housing of Nakuru County.
