Against the norm where businesses closed in the past to celebrate Easter holiday; most businesses remained open since last week Friday to catch up with the tough economic times.

“Easter no longer has a meaning with the tough economic time. I have to put food on the table for my family," said John Mutesa a butcher.

"I have been taking advantage of the holiday to cash in more,” he added.

Some claimed they had to meet the expectations of their landlords.

“My landlord will be knocking on my door at the end of the month. He doesn’t care if there was an Easter holiday or not," said Ann Wathake a hotelier.

"I went to work as usual to make ends meet,” she added.

After making several rounds in Kisii we realised that a large number of businesses remained open despite the holiday to counter the tough economic times.
