Ndungiri Location chief Anthony Kipkurui has called the youth to engage in sports to beat crimes and alcoholism.
Kipkurui was today speaking at Ndungiri Shopping Center,Nakuru North during a clearing exercises of plot to make a playground for youth.
The playground was donated by a local businessman Zakayo Mbugua.
“Sports makes youth contribute to their wellbeing and diverts them from crime and alcoholism,” said Kipkurui.
Kipkurui noted that a large number of youth engage in crime due to lack of constructive work.
“With a sports ground at hand I expect youth to build their talents by participating in various fields activities like athletics and football. Diverting youth into sports will enable them to forget committing crimes,” said Kipkurui.
The administrator expressed optimism that the level of crime at Ngungiri would drop.
Kipkurui however urged the youth not to use the playground as a venue of drugs.
“This playground will not be used by drug-peddlers to sell drugs to youth but as a venue to nurture youth skills,” said Kipkurui.
Mbugua urged the youth to involve them into innovative projects .
“We want the youth to use this field to horn their skills “, said Mbugua.
David Kimani aged 17, says that the sports ground has become a life line for most youth.
“We are happy the sports ground will motivate us in building our talents,” said Kimani.
