Kikuyu Deputy County Commander Paul Famba said the victim of the robbery resisted orders by the gunmen, something that prompted them to shoot at him.

The gang of three that had been on the businessman's trail waylaid him as he was droving into his compound, shot, and wounded him in the stomach and leg after he resisted orders.

The gang later stole an unknown amount of cash and other valuables from their target before they escaped.

Mr Famba revealed that the manhunt is ongoing and that they have called for reinforcement to help pursue the criminals.

“People holding illegal firearms have been engaging in serious crimes within this sub-county, including killing business people,” said Famba.

There has been an unusual upsurge of crime in Kikuyu Sub-County over the past two months with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa last month telling Parliament that he was being trailed by unknown people.

He said a leaflet had been dropped at the gate of his residence giving the indication that some people were after his life.
